  1. Peer is Dutch for ‘pear’ and ‘light bulb’.” – That certainly makes sense, the similarity in shape is unmistakable.

    In Portugal he (John I) is known as John the Good or John the Great; in Spain he is known as John the Bastard.” – Further North, the opposite was true, in France, William, Duke of Normandy, was known as William the Bastard, while in the England he conquered, he was William the Conqueror.
