‘And what is it to work with love?
It is to weave the cloth with threads drawn from your heart, even as if your beloved were to wear that cloth.
It is to build a house with affection, even as if your beloved were to dwell in that house.
It is to sow seeds with tenderness and reap the harvest with joy, even as if your beloved were to eat the fruit.
It is to charge all things you fashion with a breath of your own spirit.’
– Gibran. K. 1923. De Profeet [The Prophet] Den Haag, The Netherlands: Mirananda (2000) p. 24-25
Empathy diminishes ego
Ego and narcissism make empathy and compassion impossible
I love Gibran. I picked up my first copy of “The Prophet” in an airport, for in-flight reading material, and as fate would have it, just happened to have been seated next to a beautiful Lebanese woman (who was flying to meet her husband – no love story there), who spent much of the flight telling me about Gibran.
