War of the Democracies

The only two democracies ever to declare war on each-other in history are Britain on Finland. In the second world war Finland declared war on Russia (then the Soviet Union) so because of the defensive pact that Britain had with the Soviet Union in their war against Nazi Germany, the Britons declared war on the Fins. There was – as far as we know – no shot fired between in a Finn and a Briton in the entire war.
